Reason #7

It’s been a few days. Is the anticipation killing you?

You’ve been wondering what the final reason is so…

What IS the final reason (in this series) to come check Citylight out?

Truthfully, I love what God is doing so much that I could keep the reasons coming for quite some time.

But I promised 7 so…

Here’s reason #7

Citylight is dynamic!

We’re alive, excited, and ready for you!

We believe that you will be blessed by our music, instructed in the Word, and loved into our family.

Come and experience the freshness and vitality of our wonderful church!

Reason #6: Those 3 sweet words!!!

Why should you join us?

Because of those

Three simple words:

Real

everything begins with a real relationship with Jesus! This “realness” contributes to other relationships in your life, making them more significant and meaningful. We’re committed to authentic relationships with God and men.

Simple

the Bible is all about Jesus! We’re focused on essential truths that teach us how to rightly relate to God. Every part of our church has a purpose. It won’t be hard to figure out. Citylight is streamlined to be practical and effective; think of a boxer getting into his “fighting weight.”

Faith

We go public cause’ we exist for Jesus fame!

We live out our relationship with Jesus publically! We are engaged in practicing our faith in our city and around the world!

We gather to scatter.

The church meeting isn’t the end, but a means to the end.

We invite you to find out how refreshing real, simple, faith can be!

Reason #5

Why should you come check Citylight out?

Cause’ we love this community!

Our church wants to serve.

The church is not an organizational hierarchy.  It is not a building or place—the church is people!

We want the people of this church to reflect the community it serves,

every culture,

every ethnicity,

and every socio-economic group!

A community within a community—we interact with one another and then go out into our respective communities and serve them.

Our backgrounds are diverse, but we are united in Jesus. We are intentional in our relationships. We value both individuals and the families that they make up.

Our City Groups organize to actively uncover the needs of our city and look for ways to help.

In addition, we exercise a global perspective—involving ourselves in missions’ efforts at home and abroad.

All of this takes MAN-POWER!

That means we need you, your life can make a difference and we can help.

We love this city and we think you probably do too!

Reason #4

Why would you come to Citylight in Charlotte this September 16th?

I’m glad you asked!

Reason #4

Citylight is for this City!

Our church was designed to meet the needs of Charlotte’s residents. We have planned an atmosphere in which you will feel free to invite friends.

One word people will use to describe our services is “real” — enough structure to insure order but coupled with a freedom that most folks tell us they really enjoy.

Come check it out we think you’ll be glad you did!

Reason # 3

Why should YOU visit Citylight?

Because truth is important!

At Citylight, we believe certain truths are essential for faith — truths that have been held precious by Christians through the ages.

We are unashamed to declare our fidelity to the Word of God.

You don’t go to the doctor to hear what you want to hear, but what you need to hear.

At the same time, we understand the impossibility of unanimity on all points of peripheral doctrine.  In these gray areas, we maintain that we do not have to be twins to be brothers and invite all to visit with us.

So join us and look into God’s Word to discover TRUTH on a regular basis.

You can become rooted in the truth!

Why YOU should visit Citylight #2

Yesterday I began a seven post series.

I’m answering the question, why should I visit Citylight? Today’s post is sweet and simple.

Reason #2

At Citylight– we LOVE people!

We love each other and we will love you too!  We believe the church should be a place of safety—of peace and harmony. Our people are friendly and eager to get to know you; many of us are your neighbors.

When I say we love people I mean we love ALL people! Part of our church culture is a deep desire to reflect the community we serve.

If you’re a single mom, we will love you and your kids!

If you’ve experienced divorce, we will love you!

If you are a student and don’t have a dime, we will love you!

The list could keep on going…

We want to be a place where every ethnic and socio-economic group can come together with Christ in common!

In Uptown Charlotte that means we could have the privilege of being a church with nearly 100 nationalities represented– we would love that!

At Citylight, we love PEOPLE!

Don’t think it’s true? Put us to the test…come!

Why YOU should visit Citylight!

Over the next few days I’d like to give you seven simple reasons you should join us for a preview service in South End.

Before I begin, let me explain that the next great day for you to join us is right around the corner! We’re hosting “Momentum Sunday” on August 19th, which will prove a great opportunity to meet your neighbors and check Citylight out at the same time.

We need your help to begin the momentum that will help us moving into our upcoming LAUNCH!

We need you to come and bring your friends so that we can DOUBLE our current crowd on this Sunday. That means we need 60-85 people there on August 19th!

Wouldn’t it be cool if we blew that goal out of the water? You can do it! With your help, we can do it!

So without further hoopla here’s the first reason you should visit Citylight in South End.

REASON # 1

It’s a fresh start!

Many of us wish we had the opportunity to make a fresh start—to discover a place where we are accepted and can develop and grow.   Perhaps you went to church in the past and have gotten out of the habit.  If it’s time for you to jump back in, Citylight is ready to assist you in that fresh start.  You will find people like yourself who are discovering and growing together. I know that’s super simple but it’s a good reason none-the-less and a great one to get the ball rolling.

There are many excellent churches in our area.  Finding the one that fits you and your family will take time and effort but the outcome will be worth every minute. Finding a church home might change your life!  Take the time– make the time to find your faith family! It’s easy to relegate this choice to the back burner but don’t do it. You’ll be glad you made the effort!

God builds His church!

We are excited about what God is doing and preparing to do through our group!  Last night we set up our team organization structure. I have been presenting the simple truth that the ministry isn’t about any one of us—it’s all about Jesus. Effective progress will depend upon us all finding our spot in the team and making our unified effort all about Him. God’s glory is our aim; bringing people to Jesus through disciple making & church planting efforts is our simple plan! (Every member a minister)  As individuals step into areas of ministry, they become more aware of their need to depend on our Lord. Praise God, people are responding positively; they are yielding to God, and the byproduct is a sweet spirit in our group. God is at work and we all know it!

We are feverishly preparing for our preview worship meetings beginning April 1st!

God is faithful to supply every need. God gives the vision and God sustains it!

Get Real!

REAL from Brian Norris on Vimeo.

I’ve talked a lot recently about how good the gospel is for the Christian’s every day life. I’ve promoted the idea of preaching the gospel to yourself throughout the day. I referenced it when we were dealing with the subject of motivation but it goes far beyond that; gospel truth touches every facet of Christian existence. Today, we’ll see that again within the subject of authenticity.

In a world full of fakes people are hungry for authenticity. No, on second thought, they are STARVING for authenticity!

I’m reminded of buying knock off running shoes in Belarus. I was on a missions trip as a teenager and had the opportunity to ride the train to a huge flea market. While there I picked up some new kicks. On the outside, those Addidas running shoes looked just like a popular model in the US but you just had to look inside the shoe and read “Addibas” to realize they weren’t quite so legit!

More often than not people are like that. I’m not trying to be unkind- it’s just the facts.

The greater Christian world’s inability to offer a sincere picture of “real” living stems from a broad misunderstanding of God’s nature.

God is the person of worship.

When this truth is rightly understood the fear of man is lost in the fear of God. Revering God, knowing His power, longing for access and understanding we deserve rejection, forces a different perspective.
Think about it; if a two year old approaches you as an adult and says: I don’t like your face! How are you effected? You likely laugh out loud! Contrast that with your spouse or significant other saying that they no longer find you attractive—you are likely more shaken.
Why? One’s judgment matters the other has little, if any, bearing on your life.
This illustration is not to say that other people’s judgments make no difference to us but rather that in contrast to God’s they will carry far less weight.

Let’s grab some quick affirmations from the passage:
